The person had hidden their backup copies in a bureaucratic furniture graveyard, betting that no one throws away file cabinets. They'd been dead for thirty years. The bet paid off.

   That preservation is an act of defiance, and you don't need permission to decide what matters. Also that they were willing to steal—not the originals, but Lysander absolutely took those photocopies and never told anyone about the hidden drawer.

   Lost any remaining interest in working within institutional rules. Gained a certainty that their actual job wasn't going to happen inside a legitimate institution, and that was fine. Also gained a growing collection of 'forgotten' materials that technically belong to various organizations that don't know they exist.
