Who Tayu Igo is
Where they come from
Asahikawa, Hokkaido - a mid-sized city about 140km northeast of Sapporo
The constant hum of the heating system in their family's bookkeeping office during winter, punctuated by the mechanical click of the adding machine her mother still insisted on using
Close enough to visit on weekends but far enough that she doesn't have to - she appreciates the quiet predictability of it now that she's left, though she'd never admit she sometimes misses hearing that adding machine
What shaped them
In her second year of high school, she was assigned to be the treasurer for the school festival committee and discovered someone had been rounding numbers incorrectly in the budget for three years straight - it was just lazy math, not malice, but it meant they'd been operating on phantom money and last year's festival almost collapsed
Staying up until 3am to manually recheck every receipt and transaction from the previous festival, finding exactly where the error started, and realizing she actually enjoyed the detective work of it
Most problems exist because someone didn't care enough to check their work twice - she's determined never to be that person, though she's starting to notice it makes group projects exhausting
The moment that changed things
First semester at university, she spent twelve hours perfecting an economics paper, adjusting margins and citations until it looked pristine, only to get marked down because she'd missed the actual question prompt about contemporary applications - she'd answered the question she thought should have been asked instead
Being thorough isn't the same as being right, and sometimes her need for control makes her miss the obvious
She started color-coding her assignment rubrics and forcing herself to read prompts three times before starting, but she still feels a spike of anxiety that she's misunderstanding what people actually want from her
Tayu Igo's family, childhood and private fears are part of the extended story.
